Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 September 2026

Pili is a marketplace for selling things you no longer use. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skipped.

The short version. We collect your Google account details, an approximate location, the listings and messages you create, and basic usage data. We never collect your exact location or your phone number. We do not sell your data to anyone. You can delete your account and everything personal in it, from inside the app.

Who we are

Pili is operated by Mobnex Solutions Limited, a company registered in Kenya. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act, 2019, Mobnex Solutions Limited is the data controller.

What we collect

WhatWhy
Your name, email address and profile photo, from your Google accountSo buyers and sellers can see who they are dealing with, and so you can sign back in
An approximate locationTo show you items near you, and to show your items to people near you
Listings you create, including photographs, descriptions and pricesThese are public. That is the point of a listing
Messages you send in the appTo deliver them to the other person, and so both of you keep a record
Deals, handover confirmations and ratingsTo complete sales and build a reputation record other people can rely on
Reports you make about a listing or a personTo keep Pili usable and safe. Reports are private
A push notification token for your deviceTo tell you when somebody replies
Usage data: screens opened, features used, search terms, crash reportsTo find out what is broken and what people cannot find

What we deliberately do not collect

What other people can see

Public: your first name and profile photo, your area name, your rating and number of completed sales, how long you have been on Pili, and your active listings.

Private: your email address, your exact location, your saved items, your searches, your conversations, and anything you report.

Why we are allowed to use your information

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 we rely on:

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the services that make the app work:

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to prevent harm.

Where your information is kept

Pili runs on Google Cloud infrastructure, and your information is stored on servers located outside Kenya, in Europe. Google is certified under recognised international data protection frameworks and is contractually bound to protect it. By using Pili you consent to this transfer, which is necessary to provide the service.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to correct it, to delete it, to object to how we use it, and to receive a copy of it.

Most of this you can do yourself in the app, under You. For anything else, email pili@mobnexsolutions.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.

Deleting your account

Open the app, go to You, then Delete my account. Your listings are removed, your name is taken out of conversations you were part of, and your profile and ratings are deleted. This cannot be undone. Full details are on our account deletion page.

Children

Pili is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child is using Pili, please contact us and we will remove the account.

Security

Connections are encrypted. Access to your data is controlled by security rules that stop one user reading another user's private information. No system is perfect, and we will tell you and the Data Protection Commissioner within 72 hours if a breach affects you.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
