Pili works because people are honest with each other. These rules are short, and we enforce them.
What Pili is for
Second-hand household things: furniture, home appliances, fashion, and baby and kids items. If it does not belong in one of those, it does not belong on Pili.
What may never be listed
- Anything stolen, or anything you do not have the right to sell
- Weapons, ammunition, or anything made to injure
- Drugs, medicines, supplements, alcohol, tobacco or vapes
- Live animals
- Counterfeit or replica goods
- Adult items or sexual content
- Money, financial products, documents, identity cards or certificates
- Human remains, body parts or bodily fluids
- Recalled or unsafe products, including car seats of unknown history
- Services, jobs, rentals or anything that is not a physical object
- Phones, laptops, vehicles and vehicle parts — outside what Pili supports
Appliances
Second-hand appliances are the category where stolen goods most often appear. If you are selling one, add a receipt confirmation or a photograph of the serial number. It takes a moment and it is the difference between a buyer messaging you and messaging somebody else.
If you are buying one, match the serial on the appliance to the photograph in the listing before you pay. If they do not match, walk away.
Listings
- Photograph the actual item, in reasonable light
- Say what is wrong with it. Scratches, stains, missing parts, things that no longer work
- One listing per item. Do not repost the same thing repeatedly to stay at the top
- No phone numbers, links or other apps in the listing text
Talking to people
- Be civil, even when you are not going to buy
- No harassment, threats, insults, hate speech or unwanted advances
- Do not pressure anyone to move the conversation off Pili
- Never ask for money in advance. No deposits to hold an item, no transport money, no booking fees. Anyone who does this is almost always a scam, and we remove them
Meeting safely
- Meet somewhere public, in daylight
- Tell someone where you are going
- Bring a friend for anything large or valuable
- Check the item properly. Take your time — anyone rushing you is a reason to stop
- Pay only when the item is in your hands
Reporting
Every listing has a report option, and every conversation has a block option. Reports are private — the person you report is never told who reported them. We look at every one.
What happens when rules are broken
Depending on what happened, we may remove a listing, warn an account, suspend it, or remove it permanently. Where something appears to be a crime, we may report it to the authorities.
